Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama!

We’re a blessed generation. No matter your race, creed, or political affiliation, you’re blessed indeed to have witnessed the people of the United States elect an African-American man as president. To see such an achievement with our own eyes is simply unbelievable.

This extraordinary election comes on the heels of a season when many people face struggle and peril. In the midst of this economic crisis, we must remember to speak hope and love to those who are hurting. We must speak life to those who find themselves in a valley of fear and despair, dealing with job loss, foreclosure, mounting credit card debt, diminished retirement accounts or any number of problems.

Despite the challenges we face, I’m so thankful to be in this season. In fact, God’s word requires us to give thanks in everything (1 Thess. 5:18). In this issue, which focuses on gratitude, we offer articles on everything from birthday reflections to having the right holiday spirit.

In “Put on Thanksgiving,” author Elyse Fitzpatrick teaches that gratitude is a matter of the heart. Patricia Houston reflects on salvation in “The Greatest Gift You’ll Ever Receive.” Enjoy a recipe for hot holiday punch, then find out how you can fast with Deborah Leaner Ministries in January after all the holiday eating has ended.

We have bright future ahead, but we have might have to go through some trials to get there. During this holiday season, when Christmas budgets might be a little tight, use the ministry in your mouth to throw out a lifeline and encourage a sister or brother along the way. Someone you brush shoulders with every day needs your ministry of help and hope. As we close out this amazing year, remember to Speak Life from a heart of gratitude.
